Welcome of the Dean

I warmly welcome you to the Faculty of Transport Systems and Mechanical Engineering Systems at the TU Berlin!

Mechanical engineering, aero- and astronautics, micro-systems, occupational and organisational psychology, medical technology and transportation, assembly technology and factory management, and much more, all under one roof – as a school of engineering sciences, Faculty V is unique and full of surprises. We like to approach technical systems from a human-orientated point of view – technology is not merely an end in itself, but is rather taught, studied and developed in close connection with social systems and the human being.

In our research and teaching we adhere to the tradition in the German engineering sciences of having strong scientific foundations as well as a profound practical basis. We offer our students and partners in research and industry excellent opportunities for a programme of study or a scientific collaboration. This is highlighted by the large number of students from all over the world, the cutting-edge research projects, and the conferences and conventions at our faculty, as well as the prizes and distinctions received by our students and academic staff.

The work at our Faculty concentrates on the following four key areas of research:

  • Ecologically efficient technologies – flows, structure and acoustics;
  • Human-machine interaction – analysis, design and evaluation of human-machine systems;
  • The development of technical systems – processes, construction and products;
  • Mobility and transport systems – the planning, design and operation of forward-looking transport systems.

In recent years, our Faculty has undertaken a comprehensive reform of the structure of the courses offered. We now offer bachelor and master courses, all of which are accredited. New and forward-looking study programmes – some of which are unique to the TU Berlin in the whole of Germany – have been established, and an integrated system of quality control ensures the high academic level of the courses offered. Numerous internal measures help to shorten the time students need to study, and to improve the supervisor-student ratio.

All of these factors provide excellent conditions for undertaking a course of study at our faculty, for writing a doctorate, or for collaborative research and further education with us. You are warmly invited to use these opportunities!
