Applications

  • Under the current conditions (COVID-19 pandemic), there will be extended processing times for all applications
  • Please send your application together with all documents first by email and after a pre-check by postal mail.
  • We accept certified copies of diplomas and certificates or simple copies when the originals can be presented during our office hours.

Scientific Defences

Scientific defences can take place under certain conditions and with restrictions. The regulations as well as the declaration on the conduct of scientific defences in partial presence must be observed. The following video conference tools are possible: tubmeeting or Zoom with end-to-end encryption.

After consulting with the doctoral office, scientific defences can be held in presence. The hygiene regulations of TU Berlin need to be observed!

Please note that all documents (expert evaluations, declarations in connection with the execution of the defense, information about time, place, e-mail contact for the registration for the video conference) must be available at least 3 weeks before the scheduled date of the defense at the FSC in order for the debate to take place.

 

 

Doctorate

In all faculties of Technische Universität Berlin the doctorate is regulated by the joint doctoral regulations. The faculty Mechanical Engineering and Transport Systems awards the „Doctor of Engineering Sciences“ (Dr.-Ing.), the „Doctor of Natural Sciences“ (Dr. rer. nat.), and the „Doctor of Philosophy“ (Dr. phil.). An overview on the disputation dates is available by following the link on the right. You are sincerely welcome to attend the disputations

It is recommended to formally announce the proposed doctoral thesis at the faculty by applying as a doctoral candidate. After the completion of the doctoral studies and the dissertation, the candidate must apply for the admission to commence the doctoral procedure. For more information on the doctoral procedure, please follow the link "standard practice" on the right.

On June 25th, 2021 the Doctoral Regulations of the TU Berlin have been modified. According to the new Doctoral Regulations doctoral candidates have the opportunity to submit a cumulative respectively publication-based dissertation. For this, execution regulations of the faculty have to be observed in accordance with the respective sections of the new Doctoral Regulations. Please note that the execution regulations have been updated. The transitional arrangements need to be observed.

In case the doctoral candidate holds an international degree (i.e. not from a German university) Bachelor and Master (or equivalents) certificates, testimonials and a list of the subjects and grades are required. Please make sure to bring certified copies. You may only submit simple photocopies if you can present the originals in person.
